Airs. 11. Reid is at present on holiday in Wellington. Air.. A. J. Alinifle, of Raetihi, who was for some years local Methodist Alinister, was in Pox-ton yesterday on route for Wellington: A large gathering of Reform supporters in Rangitikei yesterday presented Air. W. S. Glenn, ex-member far the electorate, with a piece of silver plate in recognition of his nine years’ service in the House, specially in the interests of the farmers. Afr. J. G. Coates was present and eulogised the services of All*. Glenn.
The Wanganui “Chronicle” reports that the Attorney-General has decided to recommend the appointment of Mr. Michael Myers, K.C., of Wellington, to be Chief Justice of New Zealand, succeeding the late Sir Charles Sfcerrett. An announcement of the appointment anil probably be made after the Govern-or-General’s return to Wellington at the week-end.
A pleasant social function took place at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. 11. Bright, Norbiton Road, last evening, when the friends of Mr. and Mrs. F. Walton foregathered to bid farewell to them prior to their .taking their departure from the district. An enjoyable social time was spent and the best wishes of a large circle of friends were extended to both Mr. and Mrs. Walton. Mr. and Mrs. Walton left for Ashhurst to-day, where Mr. Walton intends taking up a farm. Mji\ and Mrs. (Walton were for a number of years in residence on the FoxtonLevin road where Mr. Walton was engaged in farming pursuits on Mr. Speirs’ property.
