CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce was held in Ross’s rooms on Thursday evening, presided over by the President (Mj-. J. K. Hornblow). Also present were Messrs M. E. Perreau, J. Martin, J. Aitcliison, A. E. Scott, F. A. Mason, C. M. Hewett, G. F. Smith, Win. Tfueiman, D. R. Barron, John Ross, D. Christie, F. Cl. Raikes, 11. E. Garbett and the secretary (Mr. R. Hornblow). NEW MEMBERS. Messrs J. Aitcliison and Geo. Barber (Moutoa) were elected new members cf the Chamber. CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows : From the Associated Chambers of Commerce suggesting that each Chamber set up a special eolinmittee to go into the question of the Cash Order System in order that evidence may be l obtained to place before tho Government when it conducts its inquiry into this scheme. —-Received From same, asking if the Chamber had any further suggestions to make relative to the remit which was before the annual conference in connection with the registration of unincorporated firms.—Received. From same asking for any further views from the Chamber on the Rural Intermediate Credit Act. — Received.
Srom same enclosing a, copy of a letter from the Registrar of Companies to the Department of Commerce and Industries in connection with the proposed registration of business names. —Received. From the publicity Department, forwarding copies of folder timetables showing the present running of the North Island Main Trunk express trains and connections to the principal branches. Mr. Martin reported that he had a supply of' the folders at the local station which are available to the public.
It was decided to thank the Department for the folders. From the Cardiff Development Office, enclosing copy of official handbook. —Received.
From F. J. Rolleston Esq., thanking the Chamber for its letter of appreciation of his services in connection with the erection of the local Courthouse. —Received. .Prolm the N.Z. Land Settlement and Development League notifying (lie Chamber that the League proposes to hold a conference in Weldington on March 12th, when it is hoped that some definite steps will be taken and an advancement made towards a satisfactory solution to the present settlement and migration problem. It was decided to refer the matter to Mr. Linklater, M.P., who is a niemlbeff of the Chamber, and to ask him, if possible, to represent the Chamber at the conference. • From the Canadian Review Co. Ltd., forwarding a copy of annual review.—Received. From Mr. Win. Ross, snr., tendering his resignation frolm the Chamber owing to ill health. Resignation a ccepted with regret, the hope being expressed that Mr. Ross would be restored to health in the near future.
From the Auckland Chamber protesting about the banks closing their premises on December 31st and asking the Chambers co-operation in having the matter rectified and recommending that banks be requested to consult the local Chamber of Commerce or its clients prior to fixing a holiday.—Supported.
