GARDEN PARTY.

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. A most successful and enjoyable garden party was held at the Vicarage on Thursday afternoon by All Saints’ Ladies Guild. There was a good attendance. Games and competitions were indulged in and resulted as follows: —Quoits, Rev. W. H. Walton; French croquet, Miss Armstrong; nut hunt, Miss N. Robinson. Cake and produce stalls were conducted by the ladies of the Guild and the sale of surprise packets created a great deal of amusement. Afternoon tea was provided. As a result of the effort the Church funds will benefit to the extent of £ll. The Guild desires to extend its thanks to all concerned and to those who patronised the afternoon.

A pleasing function took place in connection with the above garden party. -During the afternoon Rev. W. H. Walton, on behalf of the members of All Saints’ Guild, called on Mi's. C. A. Pearson, who is leaving Foxton at an early date, to accept a handsome handbag and sum of money as a token of esteem from her fellow church workers. In making the presentation, Mi 1 . Walton referred to the valuable service rendered the church by Mrs. Pearson and expressed regret, that she was departing from Foxton. Her place in church work would be greatly missed. He wished both her and Mr. Pearson every success and happiness in their new sphere of life. Musical liouours were accorded Mrs. Pearson, who, in reply, thanked the members for their handsome gift and expressions of goodwill.

PRESENTATION BY PLUNKET SOCIETY. Mrs. Pearson, who has been associated with the local branch of the Plunket Society since its inception, was entertained by members at an afternoon yesterday at the Plunket rooms and made the recipient of a token of esteem. In the absence of the president, Mrs. Perreau asked Mrs. Pearson*s acceptance of an Irish linen table cloth. In doing so she referred to Mrs. Pearson’s long and active services in the Society’s welfare and expressed regret at her departure and wished her health and prosperity in her new home. Mrs. Pearson feelingly acknowledged the kind expressions and token of esteem. Afternoon tea was dispensed and two interesting competitions got off, the winners being Mesdames Cowley and W. Smith.
