FOXTON’S UNDEVELOPED ASSET.
Speaking at the special meeting of the Foxton Borough Council, held last evening to hear the engineer’s explanation of the modified scheme of the Manawatu-Oroua River Board, Mr. F. C. Hay said he could not understand why there was no dairy factory in Foxton. Foxton’s undeveloped asset lay in the thousands of acres of sandy soil stretching to the north. If a factory was erected locally and supplies were drawn off the Moutoa, there necd-be no fear of floods preventing the supplies reaching the factory if the Board’s scheme was put into operation. If the road across the spillway was blocked for a short time it would not be any great engineering difficulty to erect some appliance to carry the cans over the area.
