SEAPLANE ARRIVES.
Another step toward commercialised flying in Auckland is the arrival to the order of Ml’. H. T. Merritt, of Blackburn, of a “Bluebird” seaplane manufactured by the Blackburn Aeroplane and Motor Company of England. It will be ready for a trial flight early next week. It will be available for commercial engagement and pleasure flights immediately. The machine, with its interchangeable wheel and float chassis, making it adaptable to either sea or land flying, is the first of its type to arrive in the Dominion. It is the latest development of the well-known “Bluebird” series, and combines the main characteristics of its predecessors with a number of improvements. The engine gives the ’plane a maximum speed of 92 miles per hour and a cruising speed of 74 miles per hour. The cruising range of a single flight is 200 miles. The wheel and float chassis, as required, are quickly interchangeable, the whole process taking no more than half an hour.
