The death has occurred of Queen Marie Christine of Spain. Mrs. C. Cronquest, of Shannon, is spending a holiday at the local seaside.
Miss P. Perrett, of Sandon, is spending a few days at the local seaside as the guest of Miss Cornfoot.
Mrs. M. Death and family, of Stewart Street, Foxton, are leaving Foxton early next week to take up their residence in Upper Hutt. “Miss Hungary,” otherwise Mile. Elizabeth Simon, aged nineteen, a tall, slim, bobbed blonde, daughter of a doctor, in a small town forty -miles -from Budapest, has been chosen as “Miss Europe” to go to America for the inter-continental contest for the world’s beauty title. Her most formidable opponents were “Miss Poland,” “Miss France” and “Miss Greece.”
At a special meeting of the Timaru Borough Council, Mr. E. A. S. Killick, secretary of the Department of Health, Wellington, was appointed town clerk from 179 applicants, vice Mr. 6. Machattie, resigned. Lady Alice Fergusson had her first aeroplane flight at Christchurch on Wednesday, when she, with Miss F. Dugdale spent a quarter of an hour over the city iu a Moth ’plane piloted by Captain Findlay. It was a perfect morning and her Excellency and Miss Dugdale enjoyed themselves thoroughly.
The death occurred in the Palmerston North Hospital yesterday after a short illness of Mr. Frank Gall, a well-known local resident. Deceased was 61 years of age and for the last thirty odd years had resided in this district, where he had been engaged in the mills and at various laibouriug pursuits. The funeral took place this afternoon, the interment being at the Kelvin Grove, Palmerston North cemetery. Mr. M. Gall, of Inglewood, is a brother of deceased.
Dr. Bla-cktoore, who recently resigned from the position of Superintendent of Tuberculosis Institutions under the Canterbury Hospital Board, was on Thursday night presented with a silver inkstand on a greenstone base and a cheque, the gift having been subscribed to by citizens. The presentation was made by the Mayor at an open-air gathering in Victoria Square, Christchurch, in the presence of several thousand people. Dr. Blackmore was given an enthusiastic ovation.
