BOWLING.
FOXTON WINS TRIANGULAR SHIELD. Yesterday afternoon the final round of the Triangular Shield contest was played at Shannon, when representatives of Foxton Chib, although not standing in a good position at the conclusion of the pre- . vious round, w’ere successful in annexing the trophy for the ensuing year. At the cominencement of the play the aggregate scores of the four clubs were Levin (5 games) 107, Otaki (5 games) 101, Foxton (5 games) 95, Shannon (3 games) 49, the advantage lying with Levin, with Otaki close up. Bv very good play Foxton rink piled up the score of 34 against a Shannon rink, which put them in the lead, Levin’s rink only totalling 19 for their game. As play proceeded, and Foxton drew up in the aggregate approaching Levin’s total the contest became very interesting, so much so because, with Levin’s game nearly finished -and Foxiton rink only a few lieads to play, the aggregates stood even. Foxton, however, secured a five on the twentieth head against Shannon, as well as a single on the nineteenth and twenty-first, which gave them the decision. The final aggregates were: Foxton 129, Levin 126, Otaki 115, Shannon 97. The following are the details: — Foxton: Heyes, Walker, Barr, Thomson (s) 34 v. Shannon: Moynihan, Blaikie, Roach, Bovis (s) 16. Levin: Bain, Sherwood, Hawke, Clements (s) 19 v. Shannon: Blackwood, Wilkinson, Mason, Jones (s) 13.
Shannon: Grey, Franks, Clayton, Knowles (s) 19 v. Otaki: Noble, Journey. Penlington, Smith (s) 14. At the conclusion of play, Mr. Sherwood (vice-president of Levin Club) congratulated Foxton rink on their win, and presented the Shield to the skip (Mr. Thomson), three cheers being given for the winners. Mr. Heyes, president of Foxton Club, acknowledged the congratulation and expressed pleasure at the interesting time the contestants had spent. Foxiton’s rink deserves congratulations for the fight they put up against their worthy Shannon opponents'in this final round. Commencing with but faint hope of securing the trophy, the team played' very good bowls throughout, and had by no means an easy team to beat. Bovis’ team did their best to hold their end up, but Foxton played well and deserve their win. The trophy will remain with the Foxton Club until next season’s contest is completed. The following are the wins registered by each club since the Triangular Shield has been in existence : s y 1917 Levin Club. 1919-20 Foxton Club. 1921 Shannon Club. 1922 Levin Club. 1923 Levin Club. 1924 Foxton Club. 1925 Levin Club. 1926 Levin Club. 1927 Shannon Club. 1928 Levin Club.
