Manawatu Herald TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 1929. ROAD CONSTRUCTION AT THE SEASIDE.
IT must be admitted that the Harbour Board has its difficulties to face in regard to shipping and finance. But there is' one source of revenue which will continue as assured finance and that is the- money derived from its leaseholds at the seaside. In this connection any outlay by the Board in providing road access to the sections means increased tenancy and added revenue.' Time and again requests have'been made to the Board do form a road leading from the highway at the bend, about a quarter of a mile from the stone bridge, to what is known as the sanatorium and thence on to the river foreshore. The construction of this road would shorten the distance to the seaside, and avoid the present dangerous cutting and tidal waters. Apart from this it would give access to a number of sections, which are now unoccupied.'The sec-tion-holders in the sanatorium, the pioneer settlers at the seaside, are entitled to road access which up to 'the present has /been denied them. We would suggest that the Board obtain an estimate for this necessary work.
