SCHOOL YEAR OPENS.

INCREASED ATTENDANCES. The school year opened yesterday with increased attendances in both the primary and secondary departments. The chairman of Committee in company with the head master (Mr. F. A. Mason) visited the scholars in the various class rooms after yesterday morning’s assembly and addressed a few encouraging remarks to the pupils, who looked particularly bronzed and healthy after the summer vacation. The class-rooms were particularly bright and clean and in such a cheerful environment the children and teachers are prompted to give of their best and the coUnmencement argus well for a successful school year. The youngest pupil in the secondary department is a girl of eleven years of a°e, who succeeded in gaining her proficiency in a Palmerston North school last year.
