LEVIN-FOXTON HIGHWAY.

Writing to the Levin (Chronicle Mr. Wlm. Falloon, of Wieraroa, said there has been considerable correspondence in different papers regarding the Main Highways in this district, but there is one point that most writers seems to have overlooked. That is that the road, Levin to Foxton, via Whirokino, is also the road tol Palmerston and only two miles longer than via Shannon by a practically level road all the way. I understaond the Manawatu County have decided to bitumenise the road Foxton-Himitangi-Long-burn, and when that is done we will not only have a Wellington-Wan-ganui highway but one to Palmerston as well The motorists are going to find a good proportion of the money for our roads and they should see that it is spent to the best advantage. The powers that be should make up their minds that the bulk Of the traffic north will go through Foxton. What sense is there then in spending huge sums cn a road that will only be used by the residents of that locality? -A tar-sealed or a cheaper road 'would do quite well where there is only a limited traffiic Let us hope that the County will secure an increased petrol tax as an increase in rates would be a. heavy burden and might mean that some of: their ratepayers would not be able to use their ears.
