MOTOR RACES.

PALMERSTON CLUB’S SUCCESSFUL MEETING. Favoured by fine -weather and a good track, the Manawatu Motor Club’s annual meeting -on the local racecourse on Anniversary Day was very successful. The day was unmarred by any serious accident. There was a good attendance. The racing resulted as follows: — -Six lap handicap, for machines up to 350 cjc. H. Tolley, 23 Indian, 20see. 1 I. Sutherland, 2| Harley, 20 sec. 2 W. Kilminster, 23 A.J.S., 10 sec. 3 At the end of the first lap, Sutherland was closing -on the limit man whom he rapidly displaced. At the third round Tolley was up to the leader and led the fourth round, keeping on to get home by 200 yards from Sutherland. Kilminster was third, 100 yards further back. Time Grain. 15sec. Six lap handicap, for machines over 350 and under 500 c.c. T. Morgan, 31 Harley, scr. 1 A. V. Radcliffc, 31 Norton, ser. 2 R. C. McKenzie, 31 A.J.S. 3 Of the eight starters four fell out in the first lap, leaving Radeliffe, McKenzie, Smith and Morgan to dispute the prize money. The order as set out stood for a lap when. Tui Morgan had only Radeliffe to head. The stern chase was short and Radeliffe gave way to the winner who had 150 yards in hand at the post. McKenzie was half a lap further back third. Ross, 23 J.A.P. 3 The field got away evenly from a. rolling start and cornered in a bunch. At the six furlong post disaster overtook Arnott. He touched Kilminster and his machine hurled into the air. The rider was unhurt. To avoid a collision Wil-

kinson dropped off his machine. The order past the stands Avas Tolley and Kilminster, Goodwin and Ross. Tolley held his position to the post. Kilminster, Ross and Goodwin rode a good race for second place but the finish showed Tolley avcll ahead. By the end of the fourth lap Kilminster was out of the picture and the placed men Tolley, Ross and Goodwin were clear of the field. The order held to the finish except that Goodwin with a great burst got up in time to beat Ross for the second position. Won by half a lap, two yards between second and third. Time smiin. 45 see. iSix lap scratch race, for machines over 350 and under 500 c.c. Rolling start. T. Morgan, 34 Harley 1 D. Managh, 34 Ncav Hudson 2 J. Aimott, 34 Ariel 3 Tui Morgan got a good start and kept his lead to win by 50 yards. Managh rode well and had no difficulty in running into second place. Arnott finished up third 300 yards aAvav. Time smin. 34 2-ssec. Five lap handicap, for machines up to 350 c.c. J. Arnott, 23 A.J.S., lOsec. 1 A. Hanker, 23 Zenith, 25see. 2 JET. D. Ross, 23 J.A.P., 20see. 3 This race was unexciting but Arnott rode Avell and won by 200 yards. Time smin. Bsec. Five lap handicap, for machines over 350 and under 500 tc.c. D. Managh, 34 Ncav Hudson, 24see. 1 T. Morgan, 34 Harley, scr. 2 A. V. Radeliffe, 34 Norton, 20 see. 3 Managh deposed the limit men in the second lap with Morgan coming up fast. Managh finished 20 yards ahead of Morgan Avitli Radeliffe 30 yards away. Time smin. 11 l-ssec. iSeven lap open classified scratch race. T. Morgan, 23 Harley, 15sec. 1 J. Arnott, 23 A.J.S., 15sec. 2 0. .Lundius, 23 Indian, 40sec. 3 Lundius led the field until the fifth lap when Morgan took the lead. Arnott displaced Lundius in the next lap but Morgan finished a quarter of a lap in the lead, 20 yards between second -and third. Time Train. Gsec.

Five lap open handicap. C. Wilkinson, 23 Harley, 15 sec. 1 A. Harker, 23 Zenith, 20sec. 2 R. Ranby, 34 Indian, ssec. 3

Wilkinson assumed the lead in the third lap with Harker and Ranby handy. The position was unaltered at the finish. Time smiu. 15 2-'sse , c.

Tolley, 2| Indian, 15sec. 3 Lundius went to the fore at the beginning of the second lap and was undisturbed for the rest of the race. Wiliklinson rode a good race and was 20 yards behind Lundius, Tolley 30 yards away. Time 6min. 27seo. • ' iSix lap handicap. D. Managh, 31 Hew Hudson scr. 1 R. Rnnby, 31 Indian, lOsec. 2 A. V. Radcliffe, 31 Norton, 25 sec. 3 The ibest race of the day. Managh off scratch rode thrillingly and deserved his win. Won by 75 yards, 200 yards between Ranby and Eadeliffe. Time Grain. lOsec. Six lap open handicap. A. Harker, 2\ Zenith, 40sec. 1 •C. Wilkinson, 2| Harley, 15 o sec. * D. Managh, 31 New Hudson, scr. 3 Harker retained his lead from the limit to win by 30 yards. Wilkin-

son and Managh rode well with a similar distance between them 'at ihe finish. Time Grain. 4-lsee.

Five lap Consolation handicap. R. Ranby, 34 Indian, scr. 1 W. Kilminster, 2J A.J.S., 5 sec. 2 L. B. Soutlnvood, 23 A.J.S., 15 sec. 3 Smith shoAved the way for lavo rounds Avitli Hamilton in attendance. By the third Ranby had gone to the front with Kilminster leading the rest. The leaders Avere never worried and the consolation Avent to Ranby by 200 yards. Soutlnvood aa’lio had got up to third in the second lap failed to improve and Avas 150 yards to the had of the second man. Time smin. 35sec.
