TROUBLE IN THE COAL MINES.
DISPUTES AND IDLENESS
Grcymouth, January 17.
Trouble at the Blackball mine, owing to the management refusing to agree to the “twin” system of employment as desired by the union, resulted in the mine lieing' idled yesterday and to-day. Two hundred and thirty’mien are affected. The Dobson mine was als'o idle yesterday and to-day, 250 men being affected. It is understood that the cause of this trouble is that the men refused to walk one hundred feet down the main incline to> reach the trolleys used for conveying them underground. The trolleys were 'left one hundred feet lower than usual for safety purposes. The State mine was idle yesterday, 180 men being affeoted. The management declined to allow four men to work as they left the mine early the previous day. The remainder of 1 the men refused to continue. The mine is working to-day.
