The Rev. and Mrs. Nicholas have returned from Marlon where they have been spending a holiday.

Miss Olga A. Yorke, has been ap pointed a probationer on ihe staf of the local D. 11. School and wil commence duty on February 4th.

Mr. and Mrs. W. Hooker and family. of' Palmerston North, are spending a holiday at Manawatu Heads. Constafble and Mrs. ,J. V. Bell returned to Foxton this week after spending a holiday at M:r. Bell’s brother's farm at Karere. ■Nurse PtAvell, who has conducted the “Orotava Nursing- Home,” in Robinson Street, for some years past, leaves for Napier on Tuesday, ■ where she will continue the practice of her (profession. During her residence in Foxton Nurse Powell has won a, wide reputation for her skill and regret will he felt at her departure and the good wishes of her friends and ex-patients will follow her in her new sphere of activity. The death took place at Palmerston on Thursday of Mr. Joseph Higgins, -late of Tokomaru, aged 78 vears. Deceased was a wellknown farmer and fiaxmiller. Deceased was a past-President of tho Flaxmiillers’ Association, vi'ce-Pre-sident of the Mnawatu A. and P. Association, member and chairman of the Makerua Drainage Board and (chairman of the Tokiomaru Dairy Company and he did yeoman service to the farming- eomhiunity. Mrs. Higgins and her sons —Charles, Sam, Harry, and Joseph, together with the daughters, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Garner and Mrs. Jos. Smith, are left to mourn their loss.
