CARE OF THE HANDS

Is it possible to do one’s own housework and yet keep one’s hands pretty and dainty for leisure hours? This is a question that is constantly being asked by women. I think I can reassure them, states a writer in a London paper. No matter how rough the work you have to do, you can keep your hands soft, smooth and white. But it means expending a certain amount of extra attention and care on ‘them.

When washing up plates and dishes always use borax in place of /soda. This will soften the water quite as well and will not make the hands rough and red as soda does, especially if your skin is very sensative. Use a mop in place of a dish-cloth.

Always wear gloves for sweeping, dusting, etc., and before doing any work for which gloves cannot to worn take a cake of good soap, moisten it and draw the linger nails over it as if scratching it. This fills the nails with soap and prevents any grime from entering them. Also rub a little cream or oil around the eutic’ule.

As soon as the work is over rub cream or oil into the hands. Rub till the grime is removed, wipe the oil off with a piece of tissue paper and wash the hands with warm soapy water. Cleanse the hands very thoroughly at night and rub in a mixture of glycerine and rosewater. Any stains can be removed quite easily by rubbing over with a treshly-eut lemon or a raw tomato.
