FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL
* MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting 1 of the Foxton Borough Council was held last night. CORRESPONDENCE . was read and dealt with as follows : —• From the Manawatu County Council ,notifying the Council that a donation of £5 had been granted towards the maintenance of the Cemetery.—Received. From the Municipal Association notifying the date of the next conference as the 6th March. The order paper was also enclosed. —Received. The Mayor and Clerkbeing appointed delegates. From the headmaster of the local D.H. School (Mr. F. A. Mason), thanking the Council for the free use of the swimming baths and Easton Park for the children in connection with the recent sports events for the Thompson Shield. — Received. REQUEST FOR FOOTPATH. Mr. K. Bradcock, of Harbour Street, wrote asking that a threefoo't path be laid along Harbour Street. The Mayor said that he would very much like to see the work done, especially as Mr. Bradcock was unalblc to get about without a chair. Cr. Walker moved that the road foreman be requested to provide an estimate for the work. * iCr. Ross said the path was already formed part of the way. The motion was seconded by Cr. S. E. Cowley and carried. CEMETERY TREES. Messrs Thos. Cook and Son forwarded a statement showing that the value of the timber taken from the Cemetery Reserve amounted to £42 2s Od. The Clerk reported that this sum had been banked to the credit of the Cemetery Account and. that in addition the Council had for sale some 32 cords of firewood. WATERWORKS FOREMAN’S REPORT. The waterworks foreman (Mr W. Neville) reported that during the month the Johnston, Russell and Union Street sewers *had been Hushed, two water services and two meters installed and three house drains cleaned of blockages. At the station 2,275,000 gallons of water was pumped. — Adopted. ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman (Mr. A- 0. Huntley) reported that during the month "the road'staff had been engaged on the following works: Mowing grass at the cemetery, removing tree guards at s>outh end of Main .Street, removing grass overhanging footpaths, trimming willows obstructing view of Avenue Road and Johnston Street, trimming trees Liddell Street to clear electric wires, laying culvert Liddell Street in front of Mr. Mantell’s residence, grading Hetta Street, carting and spreading tarred metal on . intersections along Robinson St. and junction Russell and Avenue Road,- cutting grass in Victoria Park. The intersections treated with tarred metal will be dressed with Colfix and chips at an early date. Russell and. Johnston Streets are now being top-dressed. —Adopted. Civ Walker drew the Council’s attention' to the fact that there was a large hole in the centre of the roadway in Norbiton Road, while the tar-sealing in Russell Street was “holeing” /badly in several places. It was decided to refer the matters to the road foreman.
