HOLIDAY TRAFFIC.

TALLY AT RANGITIKEI RIVER BRIDGE. A seven days’ continuous traffic tally, Which lias been conducted by the Rangitikei County Council at Bulls bridge, concluded at midnight on Ist inst. During the period mentioned, a large volute),e of traffi|c passed over the bridge, evidencing the necessity for a new and wider structure (says the Advocate). The greatest rush was on New Year’s Day, due largely to the races at Mart on 'and attractions in other places. iSo dense was the traffic at times on that day that it took two men to deal with it,' one to call ou't the items, and the other to mark them do'wn. It should he noted that none of the items which mlade up /the traffic was stopped, such a course being quiiite impracticable. The density of traffic on the Ist inst. may be judged from the fact that between 8.30 ,a.m. and 7 p.m. over 1000 ears passed over the bridge, in addition to other item*. 'The figures in connection with the tally are as follow: Motor ears 4652, passenger-vehicles (service ears, buses, etc.) 372, motor lorries 248, motor cycles 504, horsed vehicles 41, bicycles 294, horsemen 98, horses 2, cattle 100, pedestrians 196, total 6507.
