PERSONAL.

Miss Low, of Wanganui, is on holiday in Foxton, as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Hornblow. Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Grant, of Palmerston North, 'are spending a holiday at the local seaside. The Rev. and Mrs. Nicholas, of Foxton, are spending a fortnight’s holiday at Turakina. Mr. and Mi’s. R. L. Heath left Foxton this mjornifig on a holiday - visit to Auckland and Rotorua. Miss H. William's, of Wellington, is at present on a visit to Foxton where she is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. Iv. Hornblow. Mrs. Frankland and Mr. H. Frankland, of Wellington, are at present in Foxton and 'are staying with Mr. C. H. Symons. Ala’. R. Moore, who lias been studying biology in the Ot'ago University, was a visitor to Foxton during the recent holidays. Mrs. H. Com, of Napier, accompanied by her daughter, Miss Corn, wli'o has been on a brief visit to her .son, Mr. I. Corn, left Foxton this morning. Mr. R. Riddle, of the Public Works Department, Auckland, accompanied by Mrs. Riddle, is spending a holiday with his .parents in Avenue Road. , Mr. D. H. Nicol, of Wellington, is j at present relieving Mr. L. Couch ' at the local Commercial Bank of Australia. Mr. Couch is absent on annual leave.

Nurse Aitken, who has been Plunket Nurse in charge of the South Wairarapa district for some time past, has received notice of her transfer to Waikare, North Canterbury, for which place she leaves in about a fortnight’s time.

The death occurred at Dunedin this week of the Rev. John Ryley, aged 94, who was associated ‘with the very early history of the Presbyterian Church in New Zealand and was a missionary at Hampden in 1864.

Miss Beard, of Wellington, and one-time member of the teaching staff of the local State School, was in Foxton as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. John Ross, of Thynne Street, on Friday night, en route to. her home in the Feilding district, prior to taking up her duties at Suva at the conclusion of the vacation.; To be associated with one firm for almost half a century is no. mean record, but this is the record of Mi'. H. Walden, J.P., who last Saturday retired from the position of manager of the drapery department of the Greytown branch of the W.F.C.A. after 48 years’ service. Mr. C. M. Bowden (managing director) presented Mr. Walden on behalf of the management with aii inscribed gold watch. 'The Rev. Frank McDonald, who, '■ with Mrs. MpDon'ald, is spending a few days in this disti'iet prior to taking his departure for Kaitangata, will occupy the pulpit at the local Presbyterian Church to-mor-row evening. Mr. McDonald w'as Presbyterian minister in this district for several years, prior to go- • ing to Pahiatua and his old parishioners and friends will be pleased to again hear him preach and to ibeet him personally. The funeral of the late Oliver Leslie Anderson took place at Foxton yesterday and was largely attended. Services were conducted at the house, All Saints’ Chui-eh and the graveside by Rev. W. H. Walton, who referred to deceased’s popularity in the community and the straightforward, clean and upright life he had led. The pall bearer's were Messrs G. Williams, S. Wright and R. Findlay (members of the local telephone exchange, of which deceased was a member, representing the Post Office), and Messrs A. Stevenson, J. Newton and R. Hornblow (representing the Foxton Football Club, with which deceased had been so actively assor ciated). The wreaths and floral tokens were very beautiful and so mimerims that a .special ear had to requisitioned to convey them to the graveside.
