BOXING.
GRIFFITHS BEATS McALISTER. The boxing match between Billy McAlister (8.5), bantam champion of Australia, and Tommy Griffiths (8.10?), of Dunedin, at Palmerston North last night, went the full distance. Griffiths was rather nervous right at the start, but at once became confident, and ontlxixed the other practically throughout. Ho •took the great majority of the rounds and the balance of points must have left a handsome margin in his favour. McAlister took the third, fifth and fourteenth, while the sixth, ninth and fifteenth were even. Griffiths continued to gain confidence as the fight progressed and in the later stages it was plain that McAlister’s only hope was the count. , Westport, Last Night. In the theatre-To-night before a large and paying house, Artie Hay (holder), 10.5?, defeated Reg Trowern (challenger), 10.5, in tho welter-weight championship. The light went the full distance and was of even nature, Hay winning on points. The decision met with a mixed reception.
