SILVER BETTOR FINED.
Auckland, Last Night. “He was pretty cheeky all right, laying the odds in front of the totalizator house on the racecourse,” was the compient of Chief Detective Hammond at the Police Court to-day, in referring to Charles Herbert Heard, who pleaded guilty to a charge of having laid tote odds. Counsel said Geard had never been in any trouble before. He had met with an accident at work and was at present on reduced wages. “That is quite so,” said Mr. Hammond. “He Avas only a silver bettor.” Geard was fined £5 and allowed 14 days to pay.
