BARBARIC WRESTLING.

AN ANGRY DEMONSTRATION. Auckland, December 17. A return wrestling match between John Kilonis (Greece) and Pat Mc - Carthy (Canada) to-night resulted in a win for Kilonis by two falls to one. The Town Hall, was crowded. Kilonis again made himself very unpopular by adopting rough and illegal tactics, frequently necessitating the intervention of the ‘referee. There was an angry demonstration in the sixth round when Kilonis thumped McCarthy’s head several times heavily on the boards outside the ropes. The referee ordered Kilonis back into the ring. Kilonis replied by catching the referee, Mr. L. Wilson, by the shirtfront and ripping it right down the front. The crowd surged round the ring and when McCarthy re-en-tered the referee held up McCarthy's hand and the crowd cheered wildly, thinking Kilonis had been disqualified. However, the referee merely awarded a penalty fall to McCarthy. Kilonis had previously obtained a Boston crab hold in the fifth round and secured the deciding fall in the eighth round with an arm lock. There was a prolonged outburst of hooting at the close when Kilonis was declared the winner, and McCarthy was eheereS to the echo.
