CHARITABLE AID.

The Charitable Aid Officer (Mr. F. Aisher) reported at Thursday’s Hospital Board meeting a slight increase in charitable aid for the month of November in Palmerston North and Foxton. The other parts of the district were normal. He had assisted 29 families with 252 rations at a cost of £63/10/- compared with 35 .families with 169 rations at a cost of £44/3/- in November, 1927. Twenty-three men travelling the roads had called on him and he had assisted 13 at a cost of £3/16/-. The others did warrant assistance. The others did not-warrant assistance. In November, 1927, 35 called on him and 27 were assisted at a cost of £6/12/-.

At Foxton he had to assist 7 families of unemployed flax-workers with food at a cost of £4/10/- per week. There were 26 children in these families.
