VARICOSE VEINS.
TREATMENT BY INJECTION. London, December 7. Though it is ‘a delicate operation necessitating the confinement of the injected solution to an interior vein, the new treatment for varicose veins by local injection is asserted by the “Daily Mail’s” medical writer to afford a complete cure, except for the most advanced cases. He points out that it supersedes the old method of tying the veins. A solution of quinine or salicylate of soda is injected with an ordinary hypodermic glass syringe. It irritates the lining of the vein, clots the blood, effectively blocking the bloodvessel. A single injection is usually sufficient. A general anaesthetic is unnecessary. The treatment is available in most London hospitals, and has proved so popular as to necessitate several special clinics.
