TRADING AFTER HOURS.
Christchurch, December 7. An allegation that a system of scouts was in being to warn the licensee of the King George Hotel of the approach of police officers was made at the quarterly meeting of the Christchurch Licensing Committee to-day. Inspector Cameron reported on the hotel as follows“ With regard to the King George Hotel, it is quite evident that this licensee is carrying on an extensive afterhours’ trade, but owing* to the systematic method of employing men to watch for the police the matter of detection is rather difficult.” After some discussion, the. chairman (Mr. H. A. Young, S.M.) said that if the licensee did not take warning the matter would he dealt with by the committee later on.. The report put in did not disclose sufficient grounds for cancelling tho license at a quarterly meeting.” The matter was then dropped, it beino* stated that the licensee had been furnished with a copy of the police report.
