IN handing over the reigns of Government to the veteran leader of the United Party yesterday the Prime Minister did so without any show of bitterness. In a manly, straightforward and able speech he reviewed the position and record of his party. The following sentiments reflected the spirit of his 'speech: “I will place myself ahead of party on each and every _ occa- ' sion, and I have every reason to believe my followers will do tho i same. I am a New Zealander , born and' bred. I have worked for New Zealand arid will continue to do so if the people so desire.” The Reform Government go out. 'with clean hands and will afford Sir Joseph Ward the opportunity of carrying out the United Party s policy proposals without unreasonable opposition.
