HEMP MARKET.
NOVEMBER GRADING RETURNS
The grading returns for hemp, tow,, stripper tow and stripper slips for the month of November have been issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows: —
Waikuku % - One bale at Auckland and 69 at Picton were graded fine. . Thirtyfour bales at Auckland, 131 at Wellington, 95 at Foxton and two at the Bluff were rejected. The number of bales in each grade was as.follows, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: — Fine (11), good fair 518 (324), high fair 2950 (2560), low fair 2021 (4546), common 650 (1619), rejected 262 (160), a total of 6471 bales as against 9220 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 2749 bales.
The number of bales graded at each port was:—Foxton 975, Picton 86, Blenheim 62, Pt. Chalmers 175, Bluff 840, Waikuku 15, Auckland 1704, Wellington 2614. The following shows the detailed particulars of the tow graded: —
Twenty-four bales at Auckland, 7 at Wellington, four at Foxton, and one at the Bluff were condemned. The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in .parenthesis: — Ist grade 332 (312), 2nd grade 1136 (1417), 3rd grade 596 (747), condemned 36 (77), a total of 2100 bales as against 2533 bales graded the same period last year, a. decrease of 433 bales.
The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 596, Wellington 618, Foxton 165, Picton 36, Blenheim 18, Bluff 367, Waikuku 300.
Stripper tow: —One hundred and six bales at Wellington were graded Ist grade, fifty-four bales at Wellington and ten bales at Foxton were graded 2nd grade. A total number of 170 bales as against 36 bales graded the same period last year, showing an increase of 134 bales.
Stripper slips:—Five bales at Auckland were graded 2nd grade. Eleven bales at Auckland and 76 at the Bluff were graded 3rd grade. Four bales at Auckland were condemned. The total number graded was 96 bales as against 191 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 95 bales.
