JUVENILE ELOCUTIONARY COMPETITION.

A juvenile elocutionary competition was held in eonjuction with the Presbyterian sweet pea show on Thursday evening. The children competing were divided into two classes, viz., under eight years of age and under 14 years. The children recited their own selection, .which made adjudication difficult. All competing acquitted themselves well and several, with careful coaching, would develop into first-class elocutionists. The following were the winners:— Girls, under 8 years.—-Bubbles Hopkins “Teddy Bear” (87) 1, Shirley Barron “Christopher Robin’s Prayer” (85) 2. Three competitors. ■ Boys.—Bruce Smith “The Toad Stool” (75) 1, L. Knewstubb (70) 2. Three competitors. Boys, under 14 years.—A. Craig “Plucky Jack” (85) 1, W. Symons “Midnight” (75) 2. Four competitors. Girls. — Annie Dorset “Dear little 54” (85), and Ula Thomson “Abou Ben Adhem” (85) equal; -Winnie Harris, “Irish Schoolmaster” (82) 2. Ten competitors. Mr. J. K. Hornblow officiated as judge and complimented the children on. their efforts.
