LIQUOR IN ASHBURTON
BAR TO BE OPENED AFTER 25 YEARS. . Christchurch, Nov. 28. The opening day for the bar of the Ashburton Club, which has been closed for the last 25 years, has had to be indefinitely postponed. The intention was to open on Friday, but difficulties have cropped np. Till the official declaration of the voting for the entire Dominion has been gazetted, opening the bar would be illegal. The figures have not yet been so published, and the committee of the club is awaiting the official declaration. Further, the committee has been informed that liquor will not be supplied to the club till the writs of the various returning officers hav| been sent in. Apparently the liquor merchants intend to await the return of all the New Zealand figures before making a move. However, the club is carrying on with the necessary preparations and improvements to its premises, and applications for the position of steward have been invited.
