In discussing the merits of various poles at the Horowhenua Power Board meeting last week it was mentioned that silver pine poles would last as long as hardwood, but they would break a little more easily and in some cases they were not as straight as the hardwood poles. When freight was added to the cost of this class of pole it was found that silver pine would cost the Board more than the imported hardwood from Australia. Numbers of silver pine poles are used in the Manawatu Board’s district. It is claimed that they have great lasting qualities. ,
