NEW COURTHOUSE FOR FOXTON.
TENDERS CLOSE NEXT MONTH. The plans and specifications for the new courthouse for Foxton are now to hand and the work of erecting the new building will be commenced early in the new year. The plans provide for a substantial and ornate structure in keeping with the dignity of the Department. The new building will be constructed on an angle with Main Street, so as to face the new High School building and the main entrance will thus be away from the prevailing wind. The structure will be of brick and concrete with two massive pillars on either side of the front entrance and the Royal Arms over the , door. Immediately inside the front door is a lobby leading from which are two doors, one into the public gallery, which is railed off from the main court room, and the other into a passage giving access to the witness’ room and office. At the end of the passage is a door leading into the Magistrate’s room on the right and another into the court room on the left while access is also given to the yard from a porch. In the court room provision is made for the Magistrate’s bench, witness box, dock, tables, etc. The building will have a Marseilles tile roof and will be heated by means of a Classic Boiler and heat points have also been provided for. The courthouse will be electrically lit throughout. Gravel paths will lead round the Park Street side of the building and to outhouses at the rear. The building will be fenced off by a wicket fence but the main entrance will be flush with the existing concrete path. The wood to be used inside the building is to be of totara, rimu and jarrah. The building will also be provided with a flag pole.
