INDISCRETION OF A NURSE.
RESULTS IN INSTANT DISMISSAL. Auckland, Last Night. Unusual circumstances were connected with the summary dismissal of a nurse from the Auckland hospital, one being for sending an indiscreet letter to a prisoner in Mt. Eden gaol. A petition was signed by a number of nurses at the institution for reconsideration of the case, but it was eventually decided not to go on with it. The board chairman stated today that a prisoner had been receiving nine days’ treatment at the hospital and when he returned to gaol the nurse sent him a letter allegedly containing reflections on the matron. The gaol authorities intercepted it and showed it to the medical superintendent. The matter then came before the board whieh decided to dismiss the nurse.
The superintendent stated the nurse had removed the fasteners from her window, confirming the statement in the letter that she had been coming into the nurses’ home iat 1.30 in the morning.
