ELECTORAL RECOUNT
FINAL FIGURES. The official recount in connection with the Manawatu electorate was ompleted by Mr. Wm. Trueman (Returning Officer) and his staff, this morning. The recount showed the final figures to be as follows: POLITICAL. LINKLATER (Reform) 3401 SMALL (United) 1935 TAYLOR (Labour) 1634 McMANAWIAY (Independent) 757 Informal 70 LICENSING. CONTINUANCE 4113 PROHIBITION 3008 STATE CONTROL 581 Informal 95 There were 9663 names on the roll and of these 911 were deleted owing to deaths, change of address, etc., leaving 8752 effective voters. Of these 7797 recorded their votes, showing that 955 people failed to exercise the privilege. Absent voters permits were made good use of at this election. There were 488 effective absent votes recorded in the Manawatu. Seven people voted by declaration but only three were admitted, the others not being on the roll. Of the 488 absent votes recorded 42 were not allowed. Two Seamen’s Voting Permits were applied for but only one was used. There was no case of dual voting in the Manawatu hut it is reported that one elector voted twice in the Palmerston North electorate. Mr. M. E. Perreau presided over the local recount as Justice of the Peace.
