HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
SUMMER SHOW. If the weather continues fine there should be a very fine show of roses, sweet peas, and cut blooms on Thursday next at the summer show. The schedule shows that over £25 is to be distributed in prizes and trophies. Good value is being offered not only in the flower sections but also in the cooking, fancy work, and other classes. In the cooking section, Mrs. Cochrane offers a special prize for sponge roll, while the needlework section has a special class for calico aprons. The cottage gardens will be judged on Monday or Tuesday afternoon so as to enable exhibitors to use flowers or vegetables for competition on Thursday. Amateur photographers who have never won a prize, should be attracted, as there is a class for every form of “snap” the amateur is likely to take, and a special prize by Mr. I Corn, value 10/6, is offered for the best picture irrespective of size.
The inclusion of a child’s school lunch is also to be noted. It is to be nutritious, appetising and well balanced, suitable for children attending school. Parents should take particular interest in this section for which two special prizes are offered by Mrs. A. Ross and Mrs. F. Robinson.
The boys are reminded that only blackbirds, thrushes and sparrows’ eggs are allowed in the birds’ eggs section. .'Entries close in all classes, except cottage gardens, at 8 p.m. on Wednesday 21st, at Mr. J. S. Hornblow’s rooms, Ross’s Buildings.
