FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Eoxton Borough Council was held last evening. CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows : From the Main Highways Board, notifying that secondary and main highways in boroughs will be subsidised £2 for £1 instead of 30/for £1 in the future. —Received. From the Wlanganui Education Board, asking that the Council remit the charge made for water used at the school. The local school committee also wrote endorsing the above request. —The Council regretted that it could not make any refund. From the Wellington City Council, asking the Council’s assistance in protesting against the Motor regulations provision providing that local bodies erect notices at railway crossings.— Agreed to. * jSf From the Fire Underwriters’ Association, stating that no action would be taken in regard to the Council’s request for a reduction in tariff. —Received. From the Kairanga County Council, forwarding the Council’s share of heavy traffic fees (£23 9s sd). — Received. <■ • GENERAL. It was decided to add 10 per cent, to all rates unpaid by 4 p.m. on Friday, 14th (December, 1928. It was decided to make a donation of £4 4s Od to the Foxton State School 'Committee at the be- , ginning of next financial year. Permission was granted the Foxton Amateur Cycling Club to mow the park and use it for a sports meeting on the basis of 10 per cent, of gross takings. Permission -was granted Mr. D. R. Barron to remove a fowl house from Watson St. to Robinson St. A request from Mr. McColl to erect a garage on his section fronting Ravensworth Place was referred to the Works Committee. It was decided to ask the Manawatu County Council to renew its contribution towards the Foxton Cemetery. It was decided to forward the following remit to the next conference: “That country towns with a population of 2000 or less he entitled to receive library subsidies.” It was decided to refer Mr. Hobbs’ complaint to the noxious weeds inspector and to notify Mr. Parker that his tenancy of the old road will not he renewed after the 31st March next, and that under no circumstances will the road be fenced off again. It was decided that the sand cutting near the Cemetery on the Avenue Road be widened by six feet. It was resolved to remove all the tree guards in Park Street, and where necessary to stake same. WATERWORKS. The waterworks foreman reported as follows: —During the month three drains were cleaned out, the spring hoard at the baths altered and painted; noxious weeds grubbed and water meters installed. During the month 2,175,000 gallons of water was pumped, the maximum current used being 27.5 amps. — Adopted. ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman reported that during the month the staff had been engaged in repairing breaks in the bitumen in Park, Union, and Victoria Streets and Avenue Road; le-* vellng asphalt portions of the road in Johnston and Russell Sts., asphalting footpath corner of Duncan and Ravensworth Place; grading Avenue Rd., and Purcell St.; carting rubbish from Town Hall; asphalting Post Office yard for the Public Works Department; screening chips for asphalt work and general maintenance. Top dressing work was held up owing to wet weather. —Adopted.
