HEMP MARKET.
OCTOBER GRADING RETURNS. The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow and stripper slips for the month of October have been issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows:
Thirty-six bales at Picton, were graded fine. Nineteen bales at Auckland, 57 at Wellington, and 3fi at Foxton were rejected. One bale at Wellington was condemned. The number of bales in each grade was as follows, the number j for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthe- i sis:—Fine 3G (41), good fair 202 ( (218), high fair 2066 (1846), low I fair 1547 (4385), common 495 (972), rejected 112 (210), condemned 1 (nil), a total of 4450 bales as against 7672 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 3213 bales. The number of bales graded at j each port was: —Auckland 1300, Wellington 1543, Foxton 1008, Pic- , ton 39, Blenheim 26, Pt. Chalmers 61, Bluff 482. 1 The following shows the detailed
Nineteen bales at Auckland, 81 at Wellington, and 14 at Foxton were condemned. j The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: — Ist grade 166 (199), 2nd grade 670 (1497), 3rd grade 258 (802), con- ' demned 114 (84), a total of 1208 bales as against 2582 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 374 bales. j Stripper tow: —Seventeen bales at Wellington were graded Ist grade, and 30 bales at Foxton were graded 2nd grade. A total number of 47 bales as against 320 bales graded the same period last year,; showing a decrease of 273 bales. i Stripper slips:—Thirteen bales at Auckland were graded 2nd grade. One bale at Auckland was condemned and, 50 bales at the Bluff were passed for export. The total number graded was 64 bales as against 199 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 135 bales. j
