HALF-HOLIDAY ON POLLING DAY.

EMPLOYEES’ VOTING FACILITIES. The provisions of the iaw as they affect business and working hours, are contained in' a circular which has been received from the Department of Labour'. Under Section 128 of the Electoral Act, 1927, if the polling-day falls on a day other than that appointed for the weekly half-holiday, shops must close for

the half-day on polling-day instead of on the usual day of the Weekly half-holiday. As this is observed on Wednesdays in Foxton, no change will be necessary, the election day being Wednesday, November 14th. Tt is further provided that it shall not be necessary for any factory to close during any working hours on the polling day, but the occupier shall afford to each of his employees a reasonable opportunity of recording his or her vote, and no deduction is to be made from the wages, provided that the time off does not exceed one working hour. Every person who commits an offence against this section is liable to a fine of £5.
