UNITED SPORTS ASSOCIATION.

COMMITTEE MEETING. A committee meeting of the above was held last night presided over by Mr. W. T. Jewell (president). There were also present: Messrs W. Ross, W. Jewell, W. E. and J. Barber, S. Austin, M. E. Perreau, E. Parkin, J. Thomson, D. Christie, R. Warwick, G. F, Smith, C. A. Pearson, R. McMurray, and L. A. Couch (secretary). 'The chairman’s action in authorisng extra advertising was endorsed. The Salvation Army wrote thanking the committee for allowing them to collect for self-denial purposes at the meeting. The N.Z.A.C.U. wrote re levy of £5 and enclosing minutes of executive meeting. The president congratulated the association upon the success of the recent, meeting. He said they had been favoured with a fine day and record nominations. The expenses had been heavy but some would not be recurring. The meeting reflected credit upon the officials. He was pleased to note from the statement of receipts and expenditure submitted to the meeting that it would be possible to carry forward a substantial balance which, in addition to the £IOO on fixed deposit, would safeguard the club in case of a wet! day in the future.

Mr. Christie endorsed the chairman’s remarks. He said the plant was now complete. He said the only complaint from the public was that the waits were too long between the events. He said they were indebted to the Racing Club for the use of the course and appointments, and he hoped a sum would be donated to the club to further improve the track at one or two points were “bumps” were experienced. Mr. W. E. Barber said the Racing Club appreciated the recognition and would welcome any suggestions to improve the course. It had already decided to erect a platform in the saddling paddock fronting the straight fence, which would be appreciated by the public. On the motion of Mr. Christie, seconded by Mr. S. Austin, it was decided to donate £2O to the Racing Club to be expended on improving the track. Accounts totalling £l3O odd were passed for payment. Votes of thanks were passed to all the officials. Mr. D. Christie stated that he had been promised donations from the local business people for a cup to be competed for at next meeting. It was decided to hold over a number of suggestions until next meeting.
