FLAXMILLS EMPLOYEES UNION.
HALF-YEARLY MEETING. The half-yearly meeting of members of the above was held in the Town Hall supper-room on Saturday afternoon, presided over by Mr. S. Anderson (president). There was an attendance of 120 members including about 30 Foxton members. 'The report and balance-sheet were read and adopted and the following officials elected: President: Mr. S. Anderson (re-elected); vicepresident: Mr. F. Shaw; secretary: Mr. P. T. Robinson; treasurer: Mr. Fred. Whibley. TEN PER CENT. REDUCTION TURNED DOWIN. % Mr. T. Chaffey (Foxton)' moved that the employees eccept 13/6 per day until such time as fibre realised £27 10/- per ton. The mover spoke at some length in support of the motion which was seconded by Mr. 0. Dawson (Foxton). An amendment was moved to the effect that employees stick out for 15/- per day or failing that the sliding scale as suggested by Mr. Clinkard at the conciliation meeting. In, reply to a request for a secret ballot, the chairman ruled otherwise and asked those in favour of the amendment to stand and 101 stood up. Those who voted against the amendment were also asked to si and and 15 (all of Foxton) did so. Mr. Robinson stated that the mills would be going again within a fortnight and that the stopping was a bluff. Mr. Rout asked what those who would be out of work in the meantime would do. The chairman advised that they should go to the Mayor for charity and the secretary advised that if they could not obtain work to apply to the Charitable Aid Board. . At the conclusion Mr. Taylor, the Labour candidate, address'ed the meeting.
