THE SHANNON BRIDGE.
APPROACH WORK TO BE SPEEDED UP. At this week’s meeting of the Shannon Borough Council a reply was received from the Public Works Department, to the Council’s request for the speeding-up of the new road to the Manawatu bridge. The Department intimated that the contractor for metalling the road had been supplied with 14 miles of track, eight trucks and one petrol locomotive, the object being to hasten on the work. Delays had occurred through bad weather and a breakdown of the locomotive, but it was hoped to have the road open for traffic within a month.
