GAMING HOUSES RAIDED.

CELESTIALS BEFORE COURT. Wellington, October 2. Detectives raided a number of suspected houses in Taranaki, Tory and Vivian streets yesterday and arrested 12 men, mostly Chinese, for keeping gaming houses or being found on gaming premises. The Magistrate to-day remarked that he did not propose to waste time on the defendants, and, after hearing the police case and what counsel for the! defence had to say, he imposed a fine of £2O on each of two of the accused and £2 and £2 10s in the other cases.
