BOWLING.
A “working bee’ did good work on the green yesterday. The green, which is drawing well, is reported to be in better condition now than it has ever been before.
The report presented at the annual meeting of the Bulls Bowling Club shows that the last season was most successful, while the prospects are brighter than ever. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr. J. McKelvie; president, Mr. J. H. Perrett; vicepresident, Mr. S. Ingram; treasurer, Mr. G. Archer; secretary, Mr. F. G. H. Wilson. OPENING OF OTAKI GREEN. The following report of the opening of Otaki green is taken from the ! Otaki Maili-rs 1 |\ The first Club to open the season in this district was the Otaki Club which opened on Saturday. During the off-season the green had been top-dressed, but played splendidly, reflecting every credit on the caretaker (Mr. T. Coles) and able assistants. The attendance was much larger than usual, chiefly owing to the large number of croquet players from Manak.au and Levin, and local clubs. Had the golf season been closed it is more than likely that the attendance would have been a record. Mr. Wihite-Scott, in the absence of the President, explained that it was the club’s intention to open the season last Wednesday, but owing to the death of Mrs. Freeman, \yas postponed. On behalf of the Club Mr. Scott extended a very hearty welcome to all visitors —Levin, Foxton, Petone and Wellington being well represented —and trusted all would have a pleasant time, and also that the season' would be a good one for all. He expressed pleasure at seeing such a crowd present.
*. Mr. Laughton (Newtown) on behalf of the visitors, replied, and in doing so congratulated the club on having such a fine opening. He regretted that the Daylight Saving Bill had been dropped. Mr. Laughton trusted that the season in Otaki would be a good one and that many enjoyable games would be played. He also expressed pleasure at seeing so many ladies present and as they were indispensable he trusted that the club would look after them. Mrs. iScott then rolled kitty amidst applause. It being the opening of the croquet green also, Mr. Scott was called upon to make further remarks. He trusted that the dub would get the full support of all and that a very pleasant season would eventuate. Mr. Scott paid a tribute to the work of the ladies who supervised the afternoon tea arrangements. Cheers were then given, the applause followed as Mrs, Scott hit the first ball of the season. During the day some enjoyable games were played on both greens, while afternoon tea added to the day’s enjoyment. Gramophone records supplied by Mrs. Knight were appreciated.
