THE LATE J. V. ROBINSON.
The funeral of the late Mr. J. V. Robinson took place yesterday afternoon and was one of the largest funerals witnessed locally for many years. Services were conducted at the house, All Saints’ Church and graveside by Rev. W. H. Walton. The church was filled and many mourners 'were unable to gain access to the building. Rev. Walton took for his text that portion of Scripture in Luke VII referring to the raising from the dead of the son of the widow of Nain. Deceased, said the speaker, could not be raised from the dead bodily, but by carefully following the example of his life the young generation in particular could keep his spirit ever with us. Rev. Walton referred to the sterling qualities which had been characteristic of deceased and hoped they would be emulated by the younger generation. The hymn “Nearer My God to Thee” was sung and at the conclusion of the service Mrs. Jackson, who presided at the organ for the service, impressively rendered “The Garland of Flowers.” The pall-bearers were Messrs W. Ross jnr., W. Jewell jnr., L. C. Bryant, S. Austin, H. Hughes, and M. B. Bergin. A special car had to be requisitioned to carry the wreaths, which were particularly numerous and very beautiful. The cortege was followed to the cemetery by .55 motor-cars.
