THE AJANAWATU SEAT. MR. MeMANAWIAY’S CANDIDATURE. Mr. McManaway, who will probably contest .the Manawatu seat as an Independent Reform candidate, visited Foxton on Thursday and was to have met those favourable to his candidature in the evening at the Town Hall supper-room, bat owing to the brief notice given, only two or three persons put in an appearance and the meeting was abandoned. In conversation with our representative, Mr. McManaway said in offering his services he had no axe to grind. He had the time at his disposal to give to the public and it would be a pleasure to serve them. It was his intention to guage the opinion of the constituency as to his candidature and if the same support was forthcoming in the southern portion of the electorate as was evinced in the north, he would go to the poll. Mr. McManaway visited Levin yesterday. AIR. P. J. SMALL’S CANDIDA- 8 ' TURE. Mr. P. J. Small, the .official candidate of the United Party for the Manawatu 'seat, met supporters from the Levin district on Wednesday afternoon, and there was quite a. good attendance. The party organiser, Mr. A. W. Sutton, read tho policy outlined for the party, and Air. Small placed his views briefly before the meeting. A vote of . thanks to Air. Small and confidence in him as the party’s candidate, was passed; and a committee, with Mr. ,J. McLeavev as chairman, was formed to further his candidature. References were made by speakers to Air. Small’s record of local body work, including chairmanship of the Kairanga County Council. Air. Taylor, the Labour candidate, visited Foxton yesterday and conferred with supporters in connection with his campaign. Air. J. Linkiater, the sitting member, will speak at the various centres as soon as the House rises, and give an account of his stewardship and outline the Government policy. His committees will be called into activity within the next fortnight.

Tenders are invited for a lease for five years of approximately 41 acres Part Rural 'Section 265, Foxton, together with cottage, slaugh-ter-house, boiling-down shed and shed.' Specially suitable for a butcher. Particulars and conditions of tender may be perused at the Post Office, Foxton, and at the Public Trust Office, Palmerston North. Tenders close with the District Public Trustee. Palmerston North at 4 p.m. on 11th October, 1928.
