ALLEGED VICTIMISATION.
OF TWO FLAXWIORKERS. We are informed that no motion Avas submitted at the Flaxmills Employees’ Union meeting held at Foxton on Friday night convened to discuss Avhat action should be taken in respect to the alleged victimisation of tAVo employees —who are members of the union executive. It appears that the tAvo men concerned, prior to the mills closing, had a contract for tramming flax on behalf of Wliitaunui Ltd. Whether this contract Avas of a private nature or had anything to do with the aAvard is not clear. HoAvever, when it was decided to again commence milling, the men concerned Avere asked to submit a price for the Avork which, it is alleged, they refused to do, in the belief that the previous contract held good. The Avork Avas, therefore, let to some other person, hence the trouble. The point is to Avhat extent, if any, does the arrangement betAveen the parties concern the union or Ffhxmillers’ Association? If it can be shoAvn that a contract had been entered into betAveen the two parties and the conditions of such contract have been broken then it is cause for a civil action. ■ But if, on the other hand, a breach of the aAvard has been committed then and then only does it concern the Union.
The majority of the employees locally do not desire to be drawn into the trouble having settled down to work after months of idleness. Wie understand that a further meeting of the Union will be held this week.
