BOISTEROUS WEATHER.

After a beautiful day on Sunday drizzling rain was experienced in the evening which developed into a howling gale during the. night. The Manawatu River is very high as a result of the heavy rain experienced throughout the district during the past few days and the strong westerly wind has considerably banked the river up, and yesterday quite a heavy “sea” was noticeable at the wharf. The s.s. Kennedy sailed for the South on Sunday’s tide before the gale arose, otherwise the vessel would have been compelled to remain in port for some days.
