CHARGE OF ASSAULT.

YOUTH FINED. Palmerston N. Sept. 17. Before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court this morning, Hugh Archer, aged 18 years, pleaded not guilty to a charge of assaulting a boy named Neville Tillett. It was alleged by the police that Archer had kicked the lad on the hip, and, although this was not disputed by Mr. Rutherfurd, who appeared for defendant, it was contended for the defence that there had been extreme provocation; owing to a fondness on the part of the boy of “cheeking” defendant. After hearing evidence the Magistrate stated that he considered the fault had been defendant’s, and defendant would be fined £2. Costs amounted to 19/-.
