REMARKABLE ESCAPE FROM DEATH.
Marton, September 6. At the railway crossing on the main road just above Hunterville a south-bound mixed train struck a car driven by Claude Mitchell, of the firm of Grant and Mitchell, Palmerston North, who was proceeding to Hunterville. The vehicle was struck in the middle on the driver’s side and was carried for several yards and smashed to pieces. Mitchell had a miraculous escape from death, sustaining jjnjuries to, his face and shock. It is not known whether any bones are broken, but he is in the Hunterville Hospital. The crossing approach from the north is not a bad one.
