A MECHANICAL MAN.

ROBOT MATERIALISED. London, September 4. The “Daily Mail” states that a robot, not merely a collection of v,fires and cleverly jointed steel, but a manlike figure, more lifelike than the cleverest waxwork, capable of bowing, shaking hands, and talking, will open a model engineering exhibition in London on 15th September. It is the invention of an enginneer, A. H. Reffell, assisted by a journalist. When it opens the exhibition it will rise from a chair, deliver a speech which will be actually the voice of a person speaking through a. wireless mechanism concealed in the robot’s throat, after which it will answer the audience’s questions. The inventors are at present dissatisfied with the movement of the lips and are making efforts to improve it.
