TRANS-TASMAN FLIGHT.

SOUTHERN .CROSS MAY START ON SUNDAY. Sydney, August 30. The Southern Cross will hop off at 10 o’clock on Sunday night, and the airmen expect to arrive at Christchurch at 2.30 on Monday afternoon. Smith hopes to have the help of the same moon for the return flight.' WARNING TO AMATEUR TRANSMITTERS. The acting District Telegraph Engineer has issued the following notification :—ln order to ensure that there will be no hindrance to the clear and uninterrupted reception of short-wave wireless signals from- the aeroplane Southern Cross during, the forthcoming trans-Tas-man flight, arrangements have been made to warn all amateur transmitters holding special permits to operate on wave-lengths between 30 and 36 metres, inclusive, that transmission on these wave-lengths is strictly prohibited on the day of the flight. The acting Postmaster-General (the Horn K. S. Williams), answering a question by Mr. T. E. Y. Scddon (Westland) in the House of Representatives yesterday, stated that the Post and Telegraph Department expected to be in close touch with the plane during the flight, and arrangements would be made to broadcast any information that became available. WEATHER REPORTS. The Dominion meteorologist (Dr. Kidson) received the following cablegram from Mr. H. A. Litchfield, the navigator for the Southern Cross, the aeroplane which is to attempt the flight from Sydney to Christclmrch: — “Expect leave Saturday or Sunday. Please send reports as arranged. (Sgd.) Litchfield.” Dr. Kidson stated that arrangements had been made to keep the Tasman fliers fully posted with meteorological information up to the time that they left and thereafter hourly as they approach New Zealand.
