FOXTON TENNIS CLUB.
ANNUAL REPORT. The report and balance-sheet to be presented to the annual meeting of the Foxton Tennis Club this evening are as follows: “Your committee has pleasure in presenting its annual report and statement of accounts for the 192728 season. “The club has not maintained the high standard set during the 192b--27 season. It is difficult to account for this as the weather and playing conditions were everything that could be desired. With the advent of daylight saving, which we are sorry to say is not to be this year, it wa3 thought that the courts would be crowded out. There is no doubt that the opening of the new swimming baths attracted many of our players. The club has been unfortunate in losing several members whom it could ill afford to lose. Mesdames McMujrray, Hay, H? Hornblow, Misses J. and M. McMurray, R. Perreau, B. Peryman, J. Leslie, H. Spring, T. Hussey, K. and D. Desmond; Messrs R. McMurray, F. C. Hay, N. Ross, R. Goldingham, and D. McMurray are among the members who have left the town during the past season. “Two social evenings were held .during the year at which opportunities was taken to farewell Mr. and Mrs. McMurray and Mr. and Mrs. Hay. The members will find their places on the committee hard to fill.
“As usual the club competitions provided some very fine games. The Walton Rose Bowl was won by Miss Mona Stevenson for the first time, Miss G. Neylon being runner up. The Men’s Cup was won by C. Procter, who defeated N. Ross in the final. The thanks of the club arc due to Mr. Nicholas, who presented a trophy for the junior ladies. This was won by Miss Joan Thynne, after an excellent series of games, it is hoped that more competitions next season will be provided for the junior members. “Quite a number of inter-club games were played against Bulls, Levin, Shannon and Country Clubs. Your club won four and lost three. “No efforts were made during the year to augment our funds, but it is hoped to do so this season. It is to be regretted that more improvements to the courts have not been carried out during the off season. In order that the new committee may be elected when the enthusiasm of members is at its highest, we suggest that the annual meeting be held before the end of the playing season. “To the press we tender our thanks for the publicity given to club affairs. “In conclusion, we trust that.** every member will co-operate with the incoming committee to make the forthcoming season a success in every respect.” , BALANCE-SHEET.
