CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor)

Sir, —In you issue of the 7th inst. a correspondent signing himself “Fibre,” says, “Why arc members of the Union debarred a perusal of the Union balance-sheet” and, further ion, “That members are told that the balance-sheet is for the executive only.” Also a correspondent signing himself “One bf the Mugs” in a more recent issue asks the same question. I have no Avish to enter into any controversy on the subject as to Avhether or not the mills should open under present conditions, or Avhether the men should agree to the request of the millers for a 10 per cent, reduction in wages or not, but I do say that Avhatever attitude a man takes up he should stick to facts and not try to mislead the men or the public. Then Ave might get someAvhere. If they knoAV anything about the Union Avhich their letters infer they do, then they must knoAV that the secretary produces a balance-sheet at every annual general meeting and that it.is handed round in typed sheets to every member present and is open for discussion before being passed, the last meeting being no exception which Avas held in October last.. These tAvo correspondents have either deliberately misstated the facts, or else they have done it in ignorance, in whichever case the object seems to be an endeavour to cause dissension arnongst the members of the Union. Yours etc., OLD TIMER.
